Hello, fellow riders.
We’ve had some darn chilly weather on the Iron Range recently, which makes it pretty much unbearable to get out and ride for pure pleasure. However, the good news is that everything is frozen now, warm(er) weather is on the way and there’s measureable snowfall in the extended forecast. The base up here is very good and solid and you get to just about anywhere now.
Here’s a quick glance at Iron Range trail conditions as they stand now (courtesy of the DNR).
Arrowhead Trail
The Arrowhead Trail is groomed and in good condition. Riders can help maintain good trail conditions by avoiding spinning their tracks and not accelerating through the corners… (yeah like that’s going to happen). Corners are showing wear and may be icy or rough. The trail is groomed with a 3-5” base. Local snow depth is 12-18”.
Taconite Trail
The Taconite Trail has been groomed and is in good condition with the exception of a couple of short segments that remain rough. Riders can help maintain good trail conditions by avoiding spinning their tracks and not accelerating through the corners. Corners are showing wear and may be icy or rough. This trail is also groomed with a good base. Local snow depth is reported to be at about 16-18”.
With more snow and warmer temps on their way, make plans to ride the Range next weekend when conditions should be pretty decent. Of course, the forecast is always subject to change, but if it stays the way the meteorologists are predicting, there’ll be some great riding!
Remember… mention this site and the number 22 as I STILL have not given the tank of fuel away and the money is burning a hole in my pocket.
Be sure to check back for updated conditions and information on a “giveaway” I’ll be doing if you can catch me on the trail!
Until then, Ride Safe…Ride Right (to the right that is…)
